Apple Watch Ultra 3: The Most Anticipated Features

Apple is expected to unveil the Apple Watch Ultra 3 alongside the iPhone 17 series in early September. Since the Ultra line has not been updated since 2023, this year’s event is likely to introduce significant improvements. Based on rumors and software hints, six main upgrades are anticipated for the new model.

Larger Display Without Increasing Case Size
Evidence from the iOS 26 beta suggests the Apple Watch Ultra 3 may feature a 422 x 514-pixel resolution display, compared to the Ultra 2’s 410 x 502 pixels. This indicates a larger display, achieved by reducing bezel size, while maintaining the same case dimensions.

Smoother Display Performance
The watch is expected to adopt LTPO3 OLED technology, first introduced with the Apple Watch Series 10. This display technology allows for higher refresh rates, resulting in smoother animations and improved responsiveness.

Brighter OLED Panel
A brighter OLED panel, also seen in the Series 10, may arrive on the Ultra 3. Offering up to 40% increased off-axis brightness, this improvement will enhance readability even when viewed from an angle, making it more practical in outdoor and rugged conditions.

Satellite Connectivity and 5G Support
Similar to the iPhone, the Ultra 3 may include satellite communication for emergency use in remote areas without mobile coverage. In addition, 5G support is rumored, with Apple reportedly working on a low-power chip to maintain battery efficiency despite the faster network connectivity.

Faster Charging Speeds
Borrowing from the Series 10, the Ultra 3 could support fast charging capable of reaching 80% in just 30 minutes, compared to the one-hour charging time required by the Ultra 2. This improvement would come from a redesigned rear case with a larger charging coil and improved antenna design.

Blood Pressure Monitoring
Perhaps the most anticipated feature is the addition of blood pressure monitoring. While this has been long-rumored for Apple Watches, 2025 may be the year it finally debuts. Combined with existing health tools like ECG and blood oxygen monitoring, this feature could make the Ultra 3 an essential device for health-conscious users and outdoor enthusiasts.
