Google Gemini To Bring AI Music Creation Features Soon

Google is working on a native music generation feature using AI that is integrated into the Gemini app for Android. Although the feature has not been announced, a source code analysis of the app reveals that the company is working on making AI music generation more accessible to everyone.

The feature was found in version 17.2.51.sa.arm64 of the Google app, where “music generation” is listed alongside other fundamental Gemini features, indicating a high level of system integration rather than a simple add-on. The “My Stuff” area, used for categorizing AI-created content, has also received a new category for music, further supporting the notion that full song creation is being treated as a primary app function.

The code elements also indicate the existence of usage restrictions, although it is not clear what these restrictions are. These restrictions may be related to the length of the tracks, copyright issues, or the availability of the tracks only through paid subscription services. Currently, there are similar audio applications available in the Pixel ecosystem, such as Pixel Recorder, which offers advanced audio capabilities on Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 devices.

This new product fits in with Google’s overall strategy of expanding its generative audio capabilities. Google has already provided its Lyria music model to developers via the Gemini API and has incorporated audio generation capabilities into Veo, its AI video platform. What is significant about this new Gemini feature is that it is much larger in scope, as it would allow compatible Android users to generate music using AI through a mainstream consumer app.

The information is from an APK teardown, which means it is based on development code rather than an official announcement; this means that the feature could end up looking very different before it comes out—or that it might never come out at all. There has been no information released about when this feature will be available or how it will fit into the creative process.
