New Huawei MatePad Edge Brings Instant PC-Like Mode

Huawei has introduced the MatePad Edge, a new tablet designed to act as both a traditional tablet and a full PC, aiming to deliver professional-level productivity in a flexible format. The device was showcased during a technical communication session, where Huawei highlighted its most distinctive feature: the ability to switch between “tablet mode” and “PC mode” using a single gesture.

The MatePad Edge’s main innovation is a four-finger horizontal swipe gesture that instantly transforms the interface into a desktop-like environment. When activated, this mode displays PC-style windows, enhanced multitasking, and productivity-oriented tools. Huawei also published a teaser emphasizing this dual-mode experience, which blends mobility with full workstation functionality. This feature is especially useful for users who frequently transition between tasks or work on the move.

The tablet is powered by HarmonyOS 6.0, enabling what Huawei calls a dual-ecosystem within a single device. This setup allows the MatePad Edge to address three major user needs: smartphone-style entertainment, large-screen viewing, and PC-level productivity. Users can begin a task using touch gestures, continue with a keyboard and mouse, and finish with a stylus, all while maintaining a consistent interface.

According to HuaweiCentral, Zhu Dongdong, president of Huawei’s tablet and PC division, described the MatePad Edge as “equivalent to two Pros,” highlighting its fluid performance and unified interaction design. The tablet also supports applications built for both tablet and PC environments, including WPS Office, CapCut Pro, and ZWCAD—making it suitable for document creation, video editing, and technical design.

Huawei positions the MatePad Edge as a potential laptop alternative, targeting freelancers, university students, remote workers, and professionals who depend on hybrid productivity solutions. Its instant mode switching, compatibility with professional apps, and flexible ecosystem make it especially relevant for people who travel frequently, attend meetings, or multitask across multiple workflows.

While Huawei has not yet confirmed pricing or release dates, the company’s intention is clear: to transform the concept of a tablet into a truly hybrid device capable of meeting entertainment, productivity, and creative demands simultaneously.
