The Scribe news rolls out slowly but surely: Amazon announced (via banner) that the Fig colorway will hit the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft on January 28 at 6AM PST / 9AM EST. The release will come well over a month after the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft launched exclusively in Graphite on December 10, 2025.
However, there is a catch. The Fig colorway looks like it’s only available for the 64GB Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, which is $50 more expensive than the 32GB version — its more basic Graphite counterpart. While some users won’t mind paying the premium for a personality pop and extra storage, it’s a little disappointing that the only vibrant option sits behind a color ‘cover’ fee.
So what’s the big deal about the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft? You can read my full review or take a glance at the highlights below.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft
There’s a new Fig in town
Besides a groovier chassis and a matching, stunning stylus, there’s nothing new besides an extra 32GB (64GB total) to report about the colorful digital notebook. I’ve spent over a month with the device — in Graphite — and can attest to the vibrancy of the palette, even with its limited 10-color choices.
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft ditched the thick bezel on the side of previous Scribe generations in favor of a more symmetrical 11-inch display with thinner bezels all around. I’m a big fan of the size, which feels much more like a standard piece of paper. Illuminating the screen is a new front light system of mini-LEDs that create a much more uniform appearance. Though the screen doesn’t look much like paper, the textured glass adds enough friction to almost trick the hand holding the stylus into feeling like it does.
The five writing utensils (pen, fountain pen, marker, pencil, and shader) are present, as well as the highlighter tool. You can toggle between thickness options like previous Kindle Scribes, too. Software-wise, the homepage hub is incredibly intuitive and a design I hope Amazon brings to older Scribe generations via remote updates.
AI is prominent in the Scribe Colorsoft, too. But unlike other programs, I actually use Amazon’s built-in AI. It’s versatile, intuitive, and can help me dig up scribbles I can’t find or even summarize my notes before a major meeting. It also adds (conveniently) Google Drive and OneDrive integration, which is a massive step in the productivity direction for people jumping between devices.
Are there other Kindle Scribes with colorful hardware?
Older generations sport Metallic Jade
Right now, Fig stands as the only ‘colorful’ upgrade available on the Scribe Colorsoft. As for the newest grayscale Kindle Scribe, you can only buy the normal model with a white bezel and gray chassis. However, if you go back a generation, you can get your hands on a greenish, Metallic Jade Kindle Scribe. However, the same 64GB dilemma stands: to get the color, you must choose more storage.
Note that this model has the asymmetrical display to support the bigger bezel and does not support color — that’s a feature exclusive to the new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, Kindle Colorsoft (e-reader), and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (the upgraded e-reader with 32GB and wireless charging).
